Haps Pleasanton - What's Healthy?

Hap's Original Pleasanton – they are dinner only with a pretty much a la carte menu...focusing on seafood, steaks and chops...the interesting thing is how they highlight the fact that the beef is corn fed....even though grass fed is actually the best tasting and healthiest beef...since cows don't naturally eat corn.

Needless to say I'm not recommending any of the beef...good thing they have some seafood, lamb and great salads.

As usual you have to watch and avoid or minimize sauces if you're trying to lose weight.

Before you head out to the Haps Original in Pleasanton check out my choices below from their menu. 

  • Appetizers – from a purely fat loss perspective I would select the House Smoked Salmon no mention of dipping sauces or other unknowns...many of the others look good if you avoid the sauces or are open to more creative dishes...Cajun Lamb chops minus the sauce look good as well...I'm avoiding the beef because it's corn fed (they highlight this on the menu...even though cows don't naturally eat corn and grass fed beef is the healthiest and best tasting)
  • Soups – no soups for fat loss...unknown liquid calories...likely unhealthy fats and carbs
  •  Salads – go with the Hap's Original or the Spinach Salad with dressings on the side.

  • Potatoes & Vegetables - a potentially dangerous area for fat loss if you aren't careful....sorry no potatoes I would select sautéed spinach, asparagus (first choice), mushrooms and onions, or grilled artichoke
  • Steaks, Chops & Poultry - seasonal vegetables are good...avoid the sauces....Australian Lamb Chops or the Lemon & Herb Marinated Roasted Chicken Breast...pork is fattier...the steaks aren't  ideal because of the fat profile created by it being corn fed

  • Fish & Seafood - I'd go with the Roasted Salmon...good fats, actually filling, and least amount of toxins and contaminants
  • House Combinations - a lot of food...obviously you don't need this much if you're trying to lose just order an entree unless you share with someone and get the prawns

Are you wondering how I chose the above?

Even though it's been mentioned by me numerous times...when you see sauces, heavy cream, crispy, marinated, caramelized and things that will quickly turn to sugar in your body (which you don't want when trying to lose fat).  For example...any type of bread, potato, dressing, or sauce is a red flag to look for when you want to keep your fat loss efforts on track while dining out in Pleasanton.  Also of note is the contaminants much seafood has (e.g. tuna and larger fish mores...corn fed beef as mentioned above).  I know it seems picky but all these things affect you...certain types of fats are better than others...and hey guess where toxins get you want to avoid them.
